Meet a Maker: Big Boss Tacos

Founded by Luis Spindola, Big Boss Tacos was born out of a deep-rooted desire to bridge cultures through the flavors of Mexico. Originally from Mexico, Luis moved with his family to Canada, where he faced the challenge of being separated from his family due to work commitments. Determined to build a meaningful connection to his new community and share his roots, Luis embarked on a journey to create Big Boss Tacos.

The cuisine crafted at Big Boss Tacos is a celebration of Mexican garnacha, which is a Spanish word to describe street food, says Luis. Every dish is a homage to traditional Mexican recipes, adapted with locally sourced ingredients from British Columbia.

You can find a variety of delicious dishes at Big Boss Tacos, including tortas, hot dogs, and of course, tacos! The menu is still growing and a selection of traditional plates like chilaquiles, enchiladas, enmoladas, and sopes will be available soon.

Looking ahead, Luis’s big dream for Big Boss Tacos is to “bring the fastest trip to Mexico to everyone in BC in a culturally immersive experience,” as well as creating a company that cares about quality while contributing to the community.

As a Kitchen Connect maker, Luis appreciates the supportive environment and top-notch facilities that have helped him pursue his passion. Beyond summer festivals and events, he plans to expand Big Boss Tacos' reach by leveraging digital platforms and forming alliances with restaurants and cafes across Vancouver Island, aiming for growth by 2026.

You can try Big Boss Tacos at RONA Langford on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 6pm, and at festivals and events around Vancouver Island.
